Did you know that T-ball originated in 1961 in Starkville? There is no better way to commemorate this rich history of T-ball and baseball than Cornerstone having two T-ball fields dedicated to this historic achievement. Along with another historic achievement of Starkville’s rich baseball history is through James Thomas “Cool Papa” Bell. Cool Papa Bell will have a statue and plaza in his honor at Cornerstone Sports Complex. Cool Papa Bell was an American center fielder in the Negro league baseball from 1922 to 1946 and is considered one of the fastest men to ever play the game. He was later elected to the baseball Hall of Fame in 1974. And lastly but sure not least, Mississippi State University is truly the cornerstone of Starkville. Established in 1878 MSU has more than 140 years of its own rich history. And here at Cornerstone, we will grow MSU student athletes of the future and teach them the bulldog pride we all have inside.
